Sony NAS-E35HD Hi-Fi

Posted January 6th, 2009 by simon

Sony are calling this Hi-Fi system with a built in hard drive a Gigajuke player. You can rip music onto the 80GB hard drive from virtually any audio source and the system also includes a CD player and digital radio tuner. You will also get an iPod dock and high speed ripping for a wide variety of formats including MP3, Windows Media Audio, AAC, Linear PCM or ATRAC. The CD player will play CD-Rs and CD-RWs which is handy.

The system has a USB, analogue and DM ports as well as a headphones socket. It offers 60W of power with two speakers and includes a subwoofer. There’s also a bass boost function and a remote control for easy use. This may not be the best Hi-Fi system on the market but it is relatively cheap at just over $300. It also looks small and stylish as you’ve come to expect from Sony.

Canon’s EOS450D turns you into a real photographer

Posted January 6th, 2009 by Alex Ion

For me photography have been a long passion. That’s why I like to read photography tutorials and I spend lots of time with my camera out in the wild trying to get the perfect picture. However, doing so without a powerful camera could be a real pain in the arse and the real artist in you, still uncovered.

This is why Canon launched this year the EOS450D for talented photographers that want to get one of the great est photographic experience. The camera uses a 12.2 CMOS sensor, has a 3-inch LCD, a DIGIC III image processor, is compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S lenses and EX-series Speedlites and also features a 9-point wide-area AF system with f/2.8 cross-type centre point.

Along with all these, the lightweight and ergonomic body camera uses the much needed Digital Photo Professional RAW processing software, Canon’s EOS Integrated Cleaning System and runs on better batteries then before. For £469.99 it sounds like a great solution, don’t you think? - via EmpireDirect

Philips WACS7500 Wireless Music Center

Posted January 5th, 2009 by simon

Undeniably sexy looking this is basically a modern version of a HI-FI system. HI-FIs have struggled since music went online and they have had to reinvent themselves in order to keep up with the changing technology. This is another release in Philips Streamium line and it plays music from an internal hard drive with the capability to transmit to other stations in your home (it comes with one but up to five can be added). The center can play music from CD, MP3’s from the 80 GB hard drive, FM or internet radio, you can also plug in a USB memory device or dock your iPod.

There are reasonable quality flat speakers, an LCD display, remote controls and the usual range of features you might expect. You can connect using ethernet or Wi-Fi and wirelessly capturing your music collection from your PC is an option although it will take a while. Considering it costs over $800 (with additional stations at $199 each) you may wonder if you really need one.

Sony KDL40V3000 LCD TV

Posted January 5th, 2009 by simon

This is part of Sony’s Bravia range of HD TVs and for a reasonable price you can get a host of quality features which make this a good mid-range choice. It is full HD 1080p so the resolution is very good at 1920×1080. The television comes with a built in digital freeview tuner so there’s no need for a separate box which is handy. It also has S Force Dolby Digital mock surround sound which emulates a 5.1 set-up without the extra speakers; however there is no real substitute for a decent surround sound set-up.

When it comes to watching movies this television is ideal and it includes a true cinema mode which runs at 24 frames per second to match movie footage correctly. The dynamic contrast goes up to 16000:1 and the color depth is good. You get all the usual inputs including 3 HDMI, 2 scart and a PC connection. At just over $1000 this is a good television for the money.
